A completed application is the first step toward any adoption.  Without all that important information, I can't even have an intelligent conversation with you about Willow or any other dog in our program.

Willow is an adolescent spayed female Great Pyrenees/ possibly Border Collie mix.  That is a lot of information to digest.  She was so frightened in a municipal shelter that it is possible that her life might have ended right there.  But HSPPR (Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region) in Colorado Springs is kind enough to use RMCSR (Rocky Mountain Collie and Sheltie Rescue) as a resource when a particular dog needs more gentle handling or has other special needs.  Not a Collie or a Sheltie you say???  If you squint a bit, at least her coloring is Collie-ish.

Willow is a healthy and vibrant dog.  She has had to be in isolation at the home of our Director because she had an upper respiratory infection probably due to stress in a crowded shelter.  But now she is ready to start the search for her forever home.

In the 10 days that Willow has had to decompress and relax, her beautiful personality has emerged.  She adores me!  I tell people  it is because I smell like a meatball.  But I really think dogs like me because I start with no hard expectations.  I let them be who they are and come to me on their terms.  And that is incredibly important with dogs who have not had great human interactions.  I do think someone has been overly harsh with her.

I believe that Willow would be a fabulous life partner for a single woman who is active and is looking for that fulfillment of the human-animal bond.  She would love you and protect you and make you laugh with her funny antics.  She would hike or take long walks or dance with you if you wanted her to.  Could you be that person?

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
