A completed application is our first step toward any adoption.  You will find it on our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org.  Please don't send random questions until you have completed this important first step.  We need to know who you are to start a meaningful conversation.

Copper is an adolescent neutered male pooch who is perhaps a combination of Collie and Golden Retriever.  At about 1 1/2 years old, he has reached his full size and now his puppy brain just needs to catch up to his body.  He is housebroken and learning everything else a good dog should know very quickly.  His leash training is coming along well and he has a good, reliable "sit."  Down and wait are his next commands.  He loves other dogs and seems to particularly like women.

Copper came to us from a shelter in Kansas with another dog that may be his sister.  She is a Collie and that is why he is being described as a Collie mix although he may not look much like Lassie.  He is a funny boy who enjoys having his head rubbed and dancing through the fall leaves.  He enjoyed a trip to my favorite vet clinic and greeted every human and other dogs politely.  He was especially interested to sniff the kids that approached him.  Our only concern with young children is that he might be too exuberant for them.

We will only adopt to families that understand how much a dog needs to have humans that will love him and continue his education.  No one will stick this boy in a backyard and ignore him.  Not if we have anything to say about it.  And we do.

Completed application first, please.

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
