Rufus, along with his English shepherd pals Sweetie and Jasmine have gone into the custody and care of National English Shepherd Rescue.  Breed specific rescue organizations came to be in order to have volunteers with a strong knowledge base of their favored breed.  The folks who know their breed best should be the ones placing the dogs in the appropriate homes.  We are lucky to have found these folks who will do their best to determine where each dog will land.  If you are interested, please go to   nesr.info  and tell them Hope sent you.

A COMPLETED APPLICATION IS OUR FIRST STEP.  YOU WILL FIND IT ON OUR WEBSITE AT www.colliesheltierescue.org.  WE NEED A PLACE TO START A CONVERSATION ABOUT ANY OF OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS.  THANKS FOR UNDERSTANDING.  AND PLEASE DO SOME READING ABOUT THIS BREED BEFORE APPLYING.  THEY HAVE A LEVEL OF DRIVE THAT IS MCUH DIFFERENT FROM OUR FAIRLY RELAXED COLLIES AND SHELTIES.

Rufus (aka Rufus Goofus) is a 3 1/2 year old neutered male English Shepherd.  Rufe is a character!  The breed is inherently a little slow to warm up to strangers but once Rufus knows you and lets you into his life, he has so many funny little ways.  My favorite so far is when he ducks between your legs from back to front, looks up and grins at you.  I must admit that the first time he did this to me, I lost my balance and we almost had a tumble.  But no harm, no foul!

The English Shepherd is a well-rounded dog that can do well in a rural setting or in a neighborhood.  Rufus loves to go.  He enjoys loading up in the van and going to Big R, our local ranch supply store.  He made friends at the vet and enjoys greeting all the volunteers that come to visit Doggie Central.  He can be a little vocal when he hears loud noises like trash trucks.  And he would certainly alert you to any unwanted strangers in your vicinity.

Rufus has a sensitive tummy but we have found a combination of canned ID and rice with chicken broth and warm water that he loves.  We have begun adding kibble slowly back into his diet and hope that he will get back to a regular diet soon.  If this is your dream dog, RMCSR will provide all of the food that he is enjoying now and food to transition to as well.  Rufe is UTD on vaccines and microchipped with a Home Again.  He is wearing a Martingale collar with matching leash and they are his to keep.  He looks great in blue!

All of the same requirements that are standard to our adoption policies will be required for Rufus and all his friends.  A fenced and secure yard, a fabulous reference from your vet and a home visit.  Our contract requires that if you are not keeping your dog for his lifetime, he must come back to our rescue.  But think long and hard before you adopt any dog.  And make sure you are up to the commitment.  Don't let your best friend down!
