Cara is a little dumpling of a Sheltie.  She is small but round-ish and very feminine.  She had been neglected by an owner who had lots of excuses for the crummy standard of her care.  (We don't believe there is ever a good excuse for not taking wonderful care of your beloved dog.)  She has been in a foster home in Colorado Springs that truly understands what the human-animal bond is all about.  And Cara has had a great deal of veterinary care since coming into her foster.  Extensive bloodwork including a full thyroid panel (Cara is hypothyroid and has already dropped over 5#.), a comprehensive dental with extractions and multiple mass removals with biopsies.  We have all been holding our breath while waiting for the biopsy reports.  All the masses were benign!  Hurray!

As often happens in dog rescue, Cara's foster mom has fallen deeply in love with the little girl and the feeling is mutual.  Cara and Gail, together forever.  Congratulations, it's a girl!

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
