READ CAREFULLY  We will not consider any adopter who is not well-versed in Border Collies 101, that is experienced with Border Collies and their innate behaviors.  Axel will need training to become all the dog he can be, particularly on a leash.  He seems to lose his mind when he is being leash walked and another dog approaches.

Axel is the quintessential black-and-white Border Collie that you have seen doing amazing things in movies and on videos.  He is smarter and capable of greater focus than most children (oops!  I said that out loud. LOL).  He may be a little shy of new people at first but will bond like super glue once he gets to know you.  After a couple of days, it will be hard to imagine your life without him.  He is super affectionate to both men and women, LOVES to snuggle on the bed and gives rather delicate and non-slurpy kisses which is always a plus.  Axel believes in doing everything at top speed, both walking and running.  Agility training would be great fun for him if it is fun for the humans.  If it is a chore for the human on the other end, it is no fun for the dog.  Enthusiasm is the key!

Kelley, Axel's foster mom, adores him.  But if she adopts him, she can't continue to foster and that is something she and her husband are committed to.  There are some details that are so specific to Axel that is will illustrate why we use foster families for the dogs in our program.  If you see this little black and white dog on your bed at any time, day or night, he is being transported to a heavenly place where there are sheep to herd and a trickling stream to wade in.  It is his magic carpet!  And the little bugger is a cheese-a-holic!  So guard your snacks please!

A completed application is our first step toward adoption of any dog with RMCSR.  You will find the online app on our website at www.colliesheltierescue.org.  Our IT folks made it simple enough that I could do it.  It is impossible for us to discuss any particular dog until we know a bit about YOU.  Thanks for watching the website and Facebook.  It means the world to us and our pooches.

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
