A COMPLETED APPLICATION IS OUR FIRST STEP TOWARD ANY ADOPTION.  YOU WILL FIND THE ONLINE APP ON OUR WEBSITE AT www.colliesheltierescue.org. WITHOUT THE COMPLETED APPLICATION, WE CAN'T EVEN BEGIN TO HAVE A MEANINGFUL CONVERSATION WITH YOU.

Andy is a dandy!  Andy is an almost 8 year old neutered male Sheltie.  He is a big boy at nearly 45# but with frequent walks and low fat kibble, he will slim down to 35-ish.  Andy is neutered and up-to-date on all vaccines.  He is heartworm negative and his blood chemistries and CBC are terrific.  His honey sable coat is in lovely condition and he does not mind the occasional brushing and trimming.

Andy's mom became too ill to care for him and when she went into the hospital, Andy was brought to a shelter.  An ACO (animal control officer) from Broomfield, CO became aware of Andy's circumstances and sought out permission to bring him to her home while other options were considered.  Fast forward to 11/1 when Andy arrived at our Director's house with bags and baggage including two dog beds, a supply of kibble and treats, supplements, etc.  Shelties are essentially shy by nature, as many of you already know, and don't cope well with change.  It has taken Andy a few days to feel comfortable enough with me to plop in my lap for a cuddle.  He likes men, women, other dogs and well-mannered older kids.  We have no idea about cats. And squirrels beware!  Andy will be on the job!

Andy has a particularly sensitive tummy and will need to be on a low fat prescription food, currently Royal Canin Digestive Lowfat, 1/4 cup, three times a day.  Treats will be extremely limited as well.  So he will need to be trained by love and not food.

We will give preference to Sheltie knowledgeable folks.  Andy will help to screen the applicants himself because, after all, he is a Sheltie!
