Little Pearl is a gem! Pearl is a recently spayed, sweet-natured 9-year-old Blue Merle Sheltie. She came to us from a hoarder on the western slope of Colorado. None of the dogs from this situation were abused in the traditional sense of the word. But they were all neglected medically, not spayed or neutered, no dentals or grooming. New to Pearl and her friends are all the wonderful things we dog lovers do for our beloved pets: premium food, soft beds in the air-conditioned comfort of the house, enticing treats from a loving hand. Pearl is enjoying the good life at last. Pearl seems to love all living creatures. She enjoys the company of her foster fur-siblings, the human children in her foster home, both her foster parents and even the family’s cats. It is possible that she would be just fine as the center of the universe in an only dog household but it will be imperative that her humans spend quality time with her and let her learn what the human-animal bond is all about. She does not jump on furniture or beds. I am told she may want to chastise the permanent critters of the family for doing such things. When Pearl is invited to go somewhere in the car, there is great celebration. She has to be lifted in but then settles down and you will not hear a peep until you reach your destination. It will also be important for Pearl to have someone who will insist that she goes for a daily walk, without fail, to build up her strength. She must have lived in a very confined or passive way with little or no exercise. At football time, she cheers for her favorite team, the Broncos. And she has been known to try and mooch a half-time snack. But as long as she happily greets the company for the golf matches and football games, she is invited to stay. When it comes to mealtime, foster mom Kirsten looked for a way to discourage Pearl from inhaling her food. And she has succeeded with a self-dispensing treat ball that allows each individual kibble to come out, one or two at a time. Pearl is 95 % housebroken but will still occasionally have a slight accident. What would we do without our carpet cleaners? This lovely dog is not perfect but she has come such a long way in two months. Please close your eyes and imagine her dear little face with its happy Sheltie smile. That smile could be for you!

Please begin the process for adoption by reading our Adoption Policies and, if we sound like the right group for you, fill out our online Adoption Application. From there, our receipt of your completed application will be confirmed by email. You then will receive a follow-up phone call if we feel you are a good potential applicant for the dog. Lots of good conversation with the foster family, a reference from your veterinarian, and a home visit round out the screening process. We take dog adoption very seriously.  Please put a lot of thought into why you want to adopt a dog, and help us make a good match for your family. We appreciate your taking the time to visit with us. We will look forward to hearing from you as well.
